Make-up Breakdown: Aishwarya's Iridescent

Illuminate the face: add highlights to the eyes-brow bones and the inner corners-using pearlized powder then paint lips and nails with high shine gloss and lacquer.


1. Apply True Match Foundation sparingly on the t-zone and cheeks and then blend outwards until the foundation almost disappears into the skin for a natural look.

2. Tap on True Match Powder after applying foundation using the sponge provided. Focus on the t-zone where your skin will be the most shiny and where your foundation will need most hold.

3. Apply Blush Delicieux in 151 Old Rose on your cheekbones and the apples of the cheeks.

4. Apply Color Appeal Platinum Eye Shadow in 153 Metal Plum across the eye lid, blending it into the outer eye corner and lid line.

5. Then sweep Color Appeal Eye Shadow in 12 White Gold under the brow bone and the inner corner of the eye to act as a highlighter.

6. Work the Lash Architect's spiral brush right to the roots of your lashes then smooth to the tips. Don't forget the lower lash line.

7. Apply Glam Shine Blush in 151 Baby Blush to define your cupid's bow and then fill for glamorous shine.

Vimi Joshi Tells us How to Get the Bollywood Look

Bollywood is all about drama and color and the vibrant make-up looks never fail to dazzle and amaze. If you love the flawless beauty of Bollywood’s leading actresses, why not bring a touch of Bollywood glamour to your makeup regimen? To help translate the vibrant Bollywood face to everyday, we’ve enlisted Vimi Joshi, Senior Makeup Artist for M.A.C in India to give us some insider tips on how to get the look without going overboard.


“This look takes Bollywood Blue to the extreme,” says Joshi. The heart of any Bollywood look is in the eyes and this is no exception. The drama here comes from the moody blue eyes highlighted with sparkly gold shadow. As is often the case, the makeup is directly inspired by the clothing and jewelery. The key to translating this look to the real world is to simplify.

Face
Bollywood skin is flawless so start with a good foundation/tinted moisturizer (M.A.C Select Tint). “For this look create a beautiful bronze skin tone (M.A.C Powder Bronzer) and define cheekbones with a warm peachy blush (M.A.C Melba Powder Blush),” says Joshi.

Eyes
The best way to approach this look is to think of it as a smokey eye using blue instead of black or grey. Remember, it can be easy to get carried away so build the color gradually—a little goes a long way and you don’t need a lot of shadow to capture the essence of this look. Give your eyes a little extra glimmer with a touch of gold shadow dotted on the inside corners of the eyes.

Lips
The lips here are intense and red but in real life, if you have a smokey blue eye, the last thing you want to do is create an equally strong lip. Go instead for a nude, peachy gloss (M.A.C Love Nectar Lustreglass) to create a lip that’s subtle but full.

The emphasis here is on the eyes (again!) but instead of being moody and smoldering, this look is young, fresh and sweet. Want to carry your Bollywood look into the spring season but aren’t sure how (or even if) it can be done? Vimi Joshi shows us how.


Face
Instead of glowing, bronzed skin, this look calls for porcelain perfection. Use a good foundation (M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid Foundation) and concealer (M.A.C Studio Finish Concealer) to cover up any blemishes and a pressed powder (M.A.C Select Sheer Pressed Powder) to eliminate shine. For the cheeks, the look is less sculpted sophistication, more blushing bride. Apply a pretty pink blush (M.A.C Pink Swoon Powder Blush) to the apples of the cheeks to help create a fresh, youthful face.

Eyes
The eyes here are lit up with the colors of Bollywood and heavily lined. “Bring this look into every day by using a green toned eyeliner (M.A.C Jade Way Technakohl Liner) to define the under eyes and a wash of pink eye shadow (M.A.C Pink Venus Eye Shadow) on the lids,” says Joshi. Accentuate the look using black gel liner (M.A.C Black Track Fluidline) along the lash line. Finish with a generous application of mascara (M.A.C Pro Lash Mascara).

Lips
This look is a celebration of youthfulness, spring and fresh-faced beauty. Capture the essence of spring renewal with the subtle shine of a pretty pink lip gloss (M.A.C Lust Tinted Lipglass). Add a dot of shimmer to the center of the lip to plump them up and capture the light.

Tips On Nailing The Bollywood Look

* The skin should be flawless. Wear a medium to heavy coverage foundation and use concealer if necessary.

* There is no doubt that the eyes are the main focus. Think big, dramatic eyes in bold colors. To achieve that, use different shades of eyeshadows. Gold, copper, mahogany, green, blue, pink and purple are all good choices. Mix and match different colors and remember to use the darker color on the outer corner.

* You will almost never see a Bollywood actress without heavily lined eyes. Rim both the top and bottom lashes with a black kohl eyeliner. Flick the line upwards on the top to create an almond, elongated shape. Need help on kohl liner? Check out the 411 on kohl liner and a list of my reviews.

* Apply a pair of thick false eyelashes on the top to fake those luscious lashes. You can use a light coat of black mascara on the bottom.

* Don’t forget the eyebrows, which are always strong, dark and very defined. Apply a brow powder with an angled brush like Anastasia’s Mini Duo Brush #7 to fill in your eyebrows.

* Bollywood actresses always have sculpted cheeks so apply a bronzer on the hollows of the cheeks and a blush on the cheekbones and blend upwards.

* For the lips, go with colors like reds, pinks and browns. Use a lipstick then top with gloss.

* Finish the look with bindis on your forehead and jewelery.

Celebrity Makeup Breakdown: Jessica Alba At Little Fockers NYC Premiere

Earlier this week, Jessica Alba stunned the crowd in a white Valentino Couture dress, new blunt bob and a dash of glitter on the eyes. Read on to find out how celebrity makeup artist Lauren Andersen created the look!


According to Style.com, Andersen used Revlon ColorStay Foundation to even out Jessica’s skin. She then added Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in #1 Golden Sand on the cheeks and topped with Revlon ColorStay Mineral Blush in Petal. Kevin Aucoin’s Brow Pencils in Blonde was used to fill in Jessica’s brows and Brunette was used to shape. Andersen also added Dior 5-Color Palette in Incognito and MAC Pro Glitter in Reflects Gold on Jessica’s eyes, along with Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner Ebony. The look was finished with Revlon ColorBurst Lip Gloss in Bronze Shimmer.

Tips On Wearing The Look
* The key is to apply the blush to your cheekbones and blend towards the temples rather than just the apples of your cheeks.

* Those with light skin can never go wrong with pinks and peaches. Medium and darker skin look best in brighter pinks and corals.

* When going heavy on the blush, avoid using bright colors on your eyes and lips understated to prevent an overkill.

* To get the longest-wearing color, start with a cream blush then top with a powder blush.

Freida Pinto's Make-up Breakdown

One feature that Freida Pinto always highlights are her gorgeous eyes and her high cheekbones. To get her go-to look, follow these steps by ace make-up artist Jeffery Paul. For the skin, Jeffrey Paul use a foundation brush to apply concealer under the eyes and around the nose and topped it with loose powder. To create Pinto's intense eyes, he used shades of black, brown and gray: "They look dramatic on Freida and enhance her natural coloring," Jeffrey Paul says. He lined the eyes with a rich brown liner, and applied a smoky shadow with silver shimmer from the lash line to the crease. He then brushed a beige shadow from under her brow to the crease, blending that into the dark silvery shade. He applied pink blush lightly to the apple of her cheeks and finished the look with berry lip gloss.

"Accenting the eyes with a rich brown liner gives them depth and warmth," says Jeffrey Paul, who smudged the liner after rimming the eyes.

Face
Aishwarya's skin is flawless, all it needed was to be evened out. The make-up artist applied L'Oreal Accord Parfait Mineral Foundation in D5 Sable Dore to her entire face using the brush provided with the powder. Instead of brushing it into the skin, it was buffed into her face to give her skin a radiant, yet glowy look. L'Oreal True Match Blush in 155 Sable was applied to the apples of her cheeks to give them a hint of color as well as compliment her smokey eyes.

EyesL'Oreal Contour Khôl in 131 Noir Intense was used as a base for the smokey eyes, it was then cleaned up using a stiff angled eye shadow brush, to make it look neater yet smudged. L'Oreal Super Liner in Carbon Gloss was added to line the eyes on the upper and lower lid which made them darker, smokier and gave the eyes a glossy look as the name suggests. L'Oreal Color Appeal Mono Chrome Shine Eye Shadow in Brun Lame was used in the upper crease and outter lids as well to highlight the eye and contour the eyes with a lighter color than the lids. Lastly, L'Oreal Volume Shocking Exacte Brush Mascara in Black was used to give Aishwarya's already curly and full lashes that extra oomph!
